Strong foundations for growth

Today is our last day as committee of management. We’ve achieved a lot in difficult times. Aside from attracting funding to improve the security and amenity of the park and club house, through Moorabool Shire Council we have secured federal funding of over $500,000 for park upgrades.

Stage 1 includes the skatespace and basket ball court and associated works. The scope of stage 2 is still to be agreed but will likely include paths, landscape work and subject to costs a new playground. We look forward to seeing the incoming committee build on the foundation we have laid.

Just some images from the past few years: a new skatespace (almost completed), a BBQ area, some celebrations, and upgrades. Looking forward to seeing next steps!

Public meeting

There was a great turnout for the GPP meeting on Wednesday evening. Over 30 people attended the meeting and there were 10 nominations for the committee. Four officer positions were elected unopposed. With a limit on the size of the committee of 9 people, an election was held by a show of hands for the remaining 5 positions of general committee member. All nominations will now be submitted to DELWP who advises the Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change with recommendations for appointments to the committee. It’s fantastic to see renewed interest in the park.

Committee Community survey

Survey results

The Committee developed a short survey to gain insight into who uses the park, how they use it and what improvements they would like to see.

The survey was open from 6 February until 13 March 2022. The survey was completed by 56 respondents, 54 of whom completed it online.

Interestingly, most respondents walk to the park, which underlines its role as a local neighbourhood hub. There was strong support for planned developments such as the skatespace and basketball court, and suggestions for upgrades, especially of the playground. The need for improved accessibility was also highlighted.

There also some great ideas such as creating a deck at the front of the hall to provide a seating area to watch the tennis. The survey will help inform our five year plan which will guide investment in the park.

For more detail see the survey report.

Park upgrades on track

Works on Gordon’s first ever skate space and 3×3 basketball court are on track with work on the skate park due to be completed by July 2022, following completion of the skatespace at Mill Park in Ballan.

Implemented by Moorabool Shire Council in conjunction with the Gordon Public Park Committee of Management (COM) these upgrades will deliver exciting new facilities for the Gordon community.

Council officers and the committee of management have been collaborating since February 2021, planning  upgrades to complement existing facilities.

First identified in the 2014-2019 Gordon Public Park Master Plan, community enthusiasm for these facilities was evident during the community consultation undertaken by the skatespace contractors, CONVIC, in December 2021. Our recent community survey confirmed strong support for these upgrades.

The Committee continues to work with Council officers on planning for stage 2 of the upgrades, which will feature further landscaping works of the site including drainage, safety measures and  footpath and fencing works.,

Stage 2, worth $325,000, is funded by the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Infrastructure Program.

Future directions and strategy plan

The committee of management has delivered on most of the recommendations in the 2014-2019 master plan, with works planned or underway to upgrade the park.

Now it’s timely to refresh our strategy and develop a new plan to guide investment and our efforts for the next five years.

Have your say!

Complete the survey to let us know how you use the park and what improvements you would like to see.

We aim to finalise the plan by the end of March 2022. This will guide our work in 2022 through to 2027.

Gordon skatespace

We had an informative consultation session this afternoon with Convic – the company contracted by Moorabool Shire Council to construct the skatespace at Gordon Public Park. A survey is available- open from 16th December – paper copies will also be available at Gordon General Store and other sites. The consultation is only open for 2 weeks so please take the time to have your say so that we can deliver the best and most appropriate skatespace for Gordon.

Note the skatespace is part of program of works included in the Gordon Public Park master plan. Stay tuned for more information.
