Strong foundations for growth

Today is our last day as committee of management. We’ve achieved a lot in difficult times. Aside from attracting funding to improve the security and amenity of the park and club house, through Moorabool Shire Council we have secured federal funding of over $500,000 for park upgrades.

Stage 1 includes the skatespace and basket ball court and associated works. The scope of stage 2 is still to be agreed but will likely include paths, landscape work and subject to costs a new playground. We look forward to seeing the incoming committee build on the foundation we have laid.

Just some images from the past few years: a new skatespace (almost completed), a BBQ area, some celebrations, and upgrades. Looking forward to seeing next steps!

Celebrating Gordon Public Park

Gordon Public Park’s Conversation Corner

Monday 13th December 4.30pm Gordon Public Park

Join poet, singer and storyteller Barry Gilson, federal MP Catherine King and others to celebrate recent investment in the park.

Barry Gilson will provide a Welcome to Country and perform a smoking ceremony before Catherine King officially opens the Conversation Corner, which was funded through the Australian Government’s Stronger Communities program.

The Ukestra will provide some entertainment and all being well we’ll have a sausage sizzle.

The park is a work in progress and, of course, there is more to be done but it’s good to take some time out to celebrate.

So come along!

Please register for catering and COVID purposes.

Conversation Corner

With funding from the federal government’s Stronger Communities Programme – Round 6 via federal MP Catherine King we now have a fabulous conversation corner at Gordon Public Park! Three garden benches – by Kropf – make a wonderful place to have a rest, have a chat , watch the tennis and enjoy the park.

New garden beds

The garden beds are ready for planting with herbs and flowers – after the forecast hot spell. This is a step towards developing the Gordon Garden at Gordon Public Park. Thanks to Ballan and District Community Bank funding for supporting this project.

If you are interested in joining or supporting the Gordon Garden Group – let us know!

Gordon Garden Group

The Gordon Garden Group is a bunch of enthusiastic gardeners who love plants and Gordon. We have established a community veggie garden at Gordon Community Hall, we planted and maintain the garden beds at the front of the hall, and we have installed upcycled planter boxes outside Huey’s general store (if you need mint or herbs – help yourself!) and at Gordon Public Park.

If you’d like to help out contact us.

Gardening together – apart

Gardening is a healthy and productive activity that almost everyone enjoys. Even if you don’t like getting your hands dirty, most of us enjoy getting outdoors; eating fresh produce; or admiring beautiful flowers and plants.

With funding support from Moorabool Shire Council, we want to encourage people to share their gardening triumphs and travails. So send in your:

  • tips
  • photos and stories of your fabulous gardens – and gardening achievements.

Gordon Garden

With funding support from Ballan and District Community Bank investment fund we are establishing a Gordon Garden at Gordon Public Park. There have been delays due to Coronavirus but once restrictions are lifted we will get to work. We already have some upcycled planter boxes on the verandah and the plan is to add some planter boxes to create a garden corner. A great place to sit and watch the tennis or just enjoy the view.

It’s an exposed corner so we’ll plant herbs that are useful and hardy. We’ll also put in some raised garden beds near the play ground and barbeque. The plan is to pop in some veggies that we can use in our kitchen which is being renovated with funds from Goldwind Australia ( Moorabool North Wind farm.

We’ll construct a small shed behind the toilet block to store our gardening equipment – courtesy of Ballan and District Community bank. Keys will be made available to garden group members. So stay tuned. And if you have a green thumb – contact us so we can keep you informed about working bees.
